Compliance

URJe is committed to showcasing outstanding student work in all subject areas, and in a variety of formats. It is expected that all submissions conform to AUC's policies on academic integrity, and all other relevant policies at the University.

In particular, authors submitting work for publication must abide by ethical standards in terms of source use, in-text citation and documentation. According to the standards listed on www.turnitin.com, all of the following are considered plagiarism:

  • Turning in someone else’s work as your own.
  • Copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit.
  • Failing to put a quotation in quotation marks.
  • Giving incorrect information about the source of a quotation.
  • Changing words but copying the sentence structure of a source without giving credit.
  • Copying so many words or ideas from a source that it makes up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not.

Authors must also adhere to ethical standards for research involving human subjects. If your research involves interviewing, surveying or observing human subjects, please make sure you acquire permission from the Institutional Review Board.

Who Can Submit?

All undergraduate students at the American University in Cairo may submit material produced during their undergraduate studies to be considered for publication in The Undergraduate Research Journal provided he or she owns the copyright to the work being submitted. In the case of articles which are co-authored with others, the permission of all other authors must be sought before submitting, and provided in writing.

General Submission Rules

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an journal or book (print or electronic). In addition, by submitting material to The Undergraduate Research Journal, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at The Undergraduate Research Journal. Formatting Requirements

The Undergraduate Research Journal has no general rules about the formatting of articles upon initial submission. There are, however, rules governing the formatting of the final submission. Upon acceptance, authors will be expected to format their submission according to the Manuscript Preparation Guidelines.

Rights for Authors and AUC Knowledge Fountain

As further described in our submission agreement (the Submission Agreement), the authors retain AUC Knowledge Fountain all copyright in the article, and grant a public license to publish their work online.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the AUC Knowledge Fountain website and/or software agree not to misuse the AUC Knowledge Fountain service and to abide by the terms of the Submission Agreement.
