Abstract
This paper explores the transformative role of the Adjoint Variable Method (AVM) in rapid inverse design strategies, particularly in the context of metasurfaces. The AVM, a gradient-based optimization technique, efficiently acquires sensitivity information for design optimization. Recent applications of the AVM in metasurface engineering are highlighted, showcasing its versatility and efficiency in addressing design challenges.
