Abstract
[This article argues that Woolf's juvenilia, youthful diaries, and early fiction depict her lifelong struggle with questions of national, cultural, and ethnic inheritance. The author suggests that the peculiarities and contradictions of Woolf's familial and Victorian upbringing, and her youthful experiences of modernizing change in the social and physical landscape, permanently affected Woolf's understanding of history and historiographic impulses and attitudes. ﺗﻘﺪّﻡ ﻫﺬﻩ ﺍﻟﻤﻘﺎﻟﺔ ﻛﺘﺎﺑﺔ ﭬﺮﺟﻴﻨﻴﺎ ﻭﻭﻟﻒ ﻓﻲ ﺳﻦ ﺍﻟﺼﺒﺎ، ﻭﻣﺬﻛﺮﺍﺗﻬﺎ ﻭﻫﻲ ﺷﺎﺑﺔ، ﻭﺭﻭﺍﻳﺎﺗﻬﺎ ﺍﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﺘﻨﺎﻭﻝ ﺻﺮﺍﻉ ﺣﻴﺎﺗﻬﺎ ﻣﻊ ﻣﺸﻜﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﻮﺭﻭﺙ ﺍﻟﻘﻮﻣﻲ ﻭﺍﻟﺜﻘﺎﻓﻲ ﻭﺍﻟﻌﺮﻗﻲ٠ ﻭﺗﻮﺿّﺢ ﺍﻟﻜﺎﺗﺒﺔ ﺃﻥ ﺗﻤﻴﺰ ﻧﺸﺄﺓ ﭬﺮﺟﻴﻨﻴﺎ ﻭﻭﻟﻒ ﺍﻟﻌﺎﺋﻠﻴﺔ ( ﺍﻟﭭﻴﻜﺘﻮﺭﻳﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺤﺎﻓﻈﺔ ) ﺑﺘﻨﺎﻗﻀﺎﺗﻬﺎ - ﺑﺎﻹﺿﺎﻓﺔ ﺇﻟﻰ ﺧﺒﺮﺗﻬﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺷﺒﺎﺑﻬﺎ ﻟﻤﺘﻐﻴﺮﺍﺕ ﺍﻟﺤﺪﺍﺛﺔ ﻓﻲ ﻛﻞ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻄﺒﻴﻌﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻤﺸﻬﺪ ﺍﻻﺟﺘﻤﺎﻋﻲ - ﺃﺛّﺮﺕ ﺑﻌﻤﻖ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻓﻬﻢ ﻭﻭﻟﻒ ﻟﻠﺘﺎﺭﻳﺦ ﻭﺷﻜّﻠﺖ ﺍﻧﻄﺒﺎﻋﺎﺗﻬﺎ ﻋﻦ ﺍﻟﺤﻀﺎﺭﺓ٠]
