Abstract
[This article reassesses the identity of the travel genre as a narrative text that shares ideological and aesthetic characteristics with the literary text. Most Arabic writings consider the journey a form inclusive of information, science, poetry, anecdotes, morals, etc., without examining its narrative affiliation with the travel tale - a genre that has gained prominence in contemporary critical scholarship. Travel in many texts is a means not an end, one secondary element among others. For the journey, however, travel constitutes a central structure that produces its ideological and aesthetic characteristics. This article examines a number of Arabic travel works, making use of Western critical theory as well as the works of some Arabic critics. ﺗﻌﻴﺪ ﻫﺬﻩ ﺍﻟﻤﻘﺎﻟﺔ ﺍﻟﻨﻈﺮ ﻓﻲ ﻫﻮﻳﺔ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻠﺔ ﺍﻷﺟﻨﺎﺳﻴﺔ٬ ﻣﻦ ﺣﻴﺚ ﻛﻮﻧﻬﺎ ﻧﺼﺎﹰ ﺳﺮﺩﻳﺎﹰ ﻳﻤﺘﻠﻚ ﺧﺼﺎﺋﺼﻪ ﺍﻟﻔﻜﺮﻳﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺠﻤﺎﻟﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺸﺘﺮﻛﺔ ﻣﻊ ﺍﻟﻨﺺ ﺍﻟﺴﺮﺩﻱ٠ ﻭﺍﻟﺜﺎﺑﺖ ﺃﻥ ﻣﻌﻈﻢ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺎﺑﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﻌﺮﺑﻴﺔ ﺟﻌﻠﺖ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻠﺔ ﻧﺼﺎﹰ ﺟﺎﻣﻌﺎﹰ ﻣﺎﻧﻌﺎﹰ ﻟﻜﻞ ﺍﻟﻤﻌﺎﺭﻑ ﻭﺍﻟﻌﻠﻮﻡ ﻭﺍﻷﺷﻌﺎﺭ ﻭﺍﻟﻔﺘﺎﻭﻯ ﻭﺍﻟﻄﺮﺍﺋﻒ ﻭﺍﻟﺤﻜﻢ٬ ﺩﻭﻥ ﺃﻥ ﺗﻨﻈﺮ ﺇﻟﻰ ﺇﻧﺘﻤﺎﺋﻬﺎ ﺍﻟﺴﺮﺩﻱ ﻛﺤﻜﺎﻳﺔ ﺳﻔﺮ٬ ﺑﺪﺃﺕ ﺗﺤﻈﻰ ﺑﺎﻹﻫﺘﻤﺎﻡ ﻭﺍﻟﺒﺤﺚ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺪﺭﺱ ﺍﻟﻨﻘﺪﻱ ﺍﻟﻤﻌﺎﺻﺮ ٠ﺍﻟﺴﻔﺮ٬ ﻓﻲ ﻧﺼﻮﺹ ﻋﺪﻳﺪﺓ٬ ﻣﺠﺮﺩ ﻭﺳﻴﻠﺔ ﺩﻭﻥ ﺃﻥ ﻳﻜﻮﻥ ﻏﺎﻳﺔ٬ ﺑﻨﻴﺔ ﺛﺎﻧﻮﻳﺔ ﺑﺠﺎﻧﺐ ﺑﻨﻰ ﺃﺧﺮﻯ٠ ﺃﻣﺎ ﺑﻨﺴﺒﺔ ﻟﻠﺮﺣﻠﺔ ﻓﺈﻧﻪ ﻳﺸﻜﻞ ﺍﻟﺒﻨﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺮﻛﺰﻳﺔ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻨﺺ ﻣﻔﺮﺯﺍ ﹰﺍﻟﺨﺼﺎﺋﺺ ﺍﻟﻔﻜﺮﻳﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺠﻤﺎﻟﻴﺔ ﻟﻠﺮﺣﻠﺔ٠ ﻭﺗﺴﺘﻨﺪ ﺍﻟﻤﻘﺎﻟﺔ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻧﺼﻮﺹ ﺭﺣﻠﻴﺔ ﻋﺮﺑﻴﺔ٬ ﻣﻮﻇﻔﺔ ﺑﻌﺾ ﺍﻟﻤﻔﺎﻫﻴﻢ ﺍﻟﻨﻘﺪﻳﺔ ﺍﻟﻐﺮﺑﻴﺔ٬ ﻣﻊ ﺍﻹﺳﺘﻔﺎﺩﺓ ﻣﻦ ﺍﺟﺘﻬﺎﺩﺍﺕ ﺑﻌﺾ ﺍﻟﻨﻘﺎﺩ ﺍﻟﻌﺮﺏ٠]
