KEM: Contemporary Marble Product Life
Student Status
Undergraduate
Abstract
This project is an answer to a niche community that respects noble material but craves contemporary design taste. KEM is a tableware line that utilizes marble cutting waste, crafting timeless pieces. A contemporary marble tableware line that is here to give an exclusive experience, as no two slabs of marble are alike, celebrating nature’s versatility. According to statistics from Shaq Al-Thu`ban industrial cluster; the largest marble and granite industrial cluster in Egypt: for each marble or granite slab twenty percent is wasted during the cutting process. In the area of Shaq Al-Thu`ban only, where seventy percent of the industry is situated, we can simply find 448,000 tons of waste per year in the processing stage only. KEM is a step towards finding possible uses for marble cutting waste creating contemporary pieces that appeals to today’s market.
