Title
The Subjective Map of Zamalek
Student Status
Undergraduate
Abstract
The aim of the project is to introduce Zamalek in a new form: through the eyes of its people, which will also aid in the preservation of Zamalek’s identity. This is done by telling the experience and the stories of the people who experience and interact with Zamalek on a daily basis. Thus, one will see the island from a different and fresh point of view, mainly the point of view of its people. The project highlights the different and hidden parts of the island, along with creating an intimate and personal link between the island and the people. This is done by using mapping not just as a navigation tool but as a way to tell the subjective stories and the experiences of the people and their relationship with the island. The stories are divided into six different categories. Each point on the map represents a story, that one will find in the book along with the documentation of the stories.
