The AUC Women on Boards (WoB) Observatory is a specialized initiative dedicated to improving the gender balance of corporate boards in Egypt and the MENA region. It works to sensitize male board members to gender issues, qualify women from diverse sectors for board appointments, and advocate for policy and legislative changes that institutionalize gender diversity. Since its establishment, the Observatory has built a strong evidence base demonstrating the business case for women on boards.

A central activity of the Observatory is its annual monitoring report, issued since 2018, which provides a snapshot of women’s representation on boards across EGX-listed companies, the banking sector, and the public enterprise sector. The report tracks national progress through a WoB indicator and highlights gaps in each sector relative to Egypt’s Vision 2030 target of 30% women on boards.

Beyond monitoring, the Observatory supports the advancement of women leaders through its Board Ready Women Database, policy advocacy, and a range of knowledge-sharing activities. Together, these efforts contribute to accelerating gender diversity and strengthening leadership across the Egyptian corporate landscape.
