Abstract

تتناول هذه المقالة أربع روايات من الخليج والجزيرة العربية – لليلى الجهني ، وإسماعيل فهد إسماعيل ، وبدرية البشر ، وطالب الرفاعي – يبرز فيها الدور المهيمن للأخ في الأسرة . تحلل المقالة التعامل العنصري مع فئات مهمشة في بعض الروايات ، والتشدد الديني والطبقية الاجتماعية في روايات أخرى . فالعاطفة التي تنشأ بين فتاة وشاب من أعراق مختلفة تستدعي ردة فعل حادة من جانب أخ الفتاة في إحدى الروايات . وفي روايات أخرى ، يظهر التسلط انعكاساً لتمرد ديني أو عنف سياسي . بذلك يبرز الأخ في تلك الأعمال من حيث هو ممثل للقيم الاجتماعية ، مع تسليط الضوء على التطورات السياسية والثقافية التي دعمت بروز ذلك الدور .

This article explores the dominance of the brother in four novels from the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula, by Layla al-Jahni, Isma‘il Fahd Isma‘il, Badriya al-Bishr, and Talib al-Rifa‘i. It analyzes racist treatment of marginalized groups in some novels, and religious extremism and social classism in others. For example, inter-ethnic emotional bonds call for violent responses from the brother in some novels. In others, this hegemony reflects religious rebellion or political violence. In this way, the article shows how the brother becomes the representative of social values, while also shedding light on the political and cultural transformations that made such role possible.
