Abstract

[.تتناول هذه المقالة مصدرين غربيين رائدين في دراسة الموسيقى العربية كتبا في النصف الأول من القرن التاسع عشر. عني المصدر الأول لڤيلوتو، والذي ضُمِّن في وصف مصر (١٨١٢)، بتوصيف وضع الموسيقى في القاهرة خلال فترة الحملة الفرنسية، واستكمل الوصف بدراسة بعض المخطوطات العربية بعد عودة المؤلف إلى باريس. أما المصدر الثاني، فهو كتاب موسيقى العرب من المصادر الأصلية لرفاييل كيزيڤيتر، وفيه تم الاعتماد كلياً على دراسة المخطوطات دون الاحتكاك الفعلي بمؤديي الموسيقى العربية. وقد اعتمد كاتبا المصدرين على خبراء غربيين في اللغات الشرقية في فهم نصوص المخطوطات. تعرض المقالة المناهج المستعملة في المصدرين، والمشتقة من دراسات الموسيقى الغربية الرفيعة، وقصورها في توثيق الموسيقى العربية ودراستها This article examines two leading Western sources on Arab music written in the first half of the nineteenth century. The first by G. A. Villoteau, included in Description de l’Égypte, presents the varied musical scene in Cairo during the French Expedition (1798-1801), and is supplemented by a study of Arabic manuscripts conducted upon the author’s return to Paris. The second: Die Musik der Araber by Raphael Kiesewetter, based entirely on the study of original manuscripts, was written without direct contact with the performance practices of Arab musicians. The article discusses Orientalist Western music literacy traditions to show their inadequacy for studying Arab music immersed in an oral tradition.]
