Abstract

[This article explores the possibilities of producing knowledge about political life through an analysis of translation practices of political texts. It re-examines the historical debate between different schools in the field of Western political ideas regarding whether text or context should be given more primacy. It reveals that considering translation practices involved in this debate allows us to better describe and understand how the field of political science itself is structured as a polemical field. The example of the English translation of the Italian word/concept virtù, used by Machiavelli in the sixteenth century, illustrates this thesis. تبحث المقالة إمكانيات إنتاج المعرفة فيما يخص الحياة السياسية من خلال تحليل ممارسات ترجمة النصوص السياسية . وتعيد المقالة النظر في السجال التاريخي ﺑﻴﻦ المدارس المتعددة في مجال الفكر السياسى الغربي عن أيهما له الأفضلية : النص أم السياق . توضح المقالة أن أخذ ممارسات الترجمة المتضمنة في هذا السجال بعين الاعتبار يمنحنا فهماً ﺃﻓﻀﻞ لكون مجال العلوم السياسة مجالاً جدلياً في حد ذاته . تتخذ المقالة من مثال ترجمة مصطلح ((الفضيلة)) الذي استخدمه ماكياڨيللي في القرن السادس ﻋﺸﺮ من الإيطالية إلى الإنجليزية دليلاً على هذا الطرح .]
