Abstract

[تجمع هذه المقالة منتخبات من مقابلة موسّعة غير منشورة مع العالم المصري الراحل حول البحث العلمي والبيئي في مصر في القرن العشرين وأسباب نهضته وتراجعه. وتعتمد أفكاره المطروحة هنا على تجربته المباشرة - أستاذاً وباحثاً - ومنصبه في المنظمات الدولية، بما في ذلك رئاسته للاتحاد الدولي لحماية الطبيعة. تنطلق رؤيته من ﺧﺒﺮﺓ ممتدة وريادة في دراسة المناطق الصحراوية ومشاريع الري والتنمية. وتتلخص فلسفته في ضرورة التراسل بين البحث العلمي والمتطلبات الوطنية، والتكامل بين الدراسات الأكاديمية والاقتصاد القومي. كما أنه يؤكد أهمية البحث العلمي على المستوى الدولي في قضايا التصحر والتلوث البيئي . This article is culled from a recent, extensive interview with the late author on issues of scientific and environmental research in Egypt, which are based on his first-hand experience and positions in international organizations for the protection of the environment. His testimony on twentieth-century scientific research in Egypt is rooted in his practice and vision. This philosophy can be summarized as the necessity of cooperation between scientific research and national needs, between academic pursuits and the national economy. Equally imperative for him is the need to do international scientific research attending to global concerns regarding desertification and environmental degradation.]
