Abstract
[In an attempt to present a comprehensive image of the role played by historical women in northern Morocco, this article relies on a diversity of narratives: that of a real historical woman, that of a legendary woman, and that of a character from a women's tale told in the area. By thus complementing the knowledge obtained from documentary sources with that supplied by accounts of a more imaginary nature, the article is able to bring out the vital contributions which women have made to this culture in ways that would be difficult to do by relying exclusively on documentary evidence.
