Abstract
[Edward Said came to know the works of Vico at an early stage of his intellectual formation. He was captivated by Vico's New Science, and found, in his own reading of it, basic principles of human sciences. Two aspects of Vico have particularly left their impact on Said's writing: men being the makers of their history and the creative use of philology to understand hidden meaning and context. This article analyzes the presence of Vico in Said's thought, from his first article on Vico as autodidact (1967) to his posthumous book, Humanism and Democratic Criticism (2004). /تعرّف سعيد على أفكار ڨيكو - أستاذ البلاغة في جامعة ناپولي - في مرحلة الدراسة الجامعية، وامتلأ إعجاباﹰ بعمل ڨيكو الشهير في فلسفة التاريخ، العلم الجديد (٤٤٧١)٠ ووجد في قراءته لهذا الكتاب الرائد المبادئ الأساسية في العلوم الإنسانية٠ وهناك جانبان في فكر ڨيكو شدّا سعيد، لتراسلهما مع بنيته الفكرية: أولهما قوله بأن البشر يصنعون تاريخهم، وبالتالي فهم يحرّكون مسيرتهم بإرادتهم، وثانيهما الاستخدام الخلاق للفيلولوجيا والبحث عن أصول الكلمات للوصول إلى المعاني المستترة وسياق ﺗﺸﻜّﻠﻬﺎ٠ تقوم هذه الدراسة على تحليل حضور الفكر "ﺍﻟﭭﻴﻜﻮﻱ" عند سعيد، من أول مقالة كتبها عن هذا ﺍﻟﻤﻔﻜّﺮ الفذ (في ٧٦٩١)، حتى كتابه الذي نشر بعد رحيله عن النزعة الإنسانية (٤٠٠٢)٠]
