Folks Songs Archive
This project aims to document folk songs due to major lack in archiving the folkloric materials. It is an interactive archive that creates an engaging, valuable yet entertaining experience between the audience and the songs. Not only does the archive include textual information but also audio recordings. The research focuses on two environments; Al-Sharqia, a large agricultural governorate and Port Said, a coastal city. The difference between each area is depicted by envisioning the lyrics through lettering and turning each song to an illustrated piece from the original environment. This reflects on how the cultural environment influences the group to create their own kind of folk songs. The songs were collected from visiting each environment as well as recording some of them. The style focuses on analyzing their elements and integrating them within the design.
