Translating the Fantastic: A Wizard of Earthsea as an Example
Description or Abstract
The Center for Translation Studies presents an interdisciplinary lecture by Dr. Mona El Namoury, a professor at Tanta University, English Department. El Namoury is also a writer and a translator who discussed in her presentation the process of translating science fiction from English to Arabic using the young-adult fantasy novel A Wizard of Earthsea written by the American author Ursula K. Le Guin as an example. Using her experience translating this novel, El Namoury commented on the many technical and cultural questions that arise when translating the text for an Arabic-speaking audience.
