Abstract

[.ترمي هذه المقالة إلى رسم إطار عام لمسرى الكتابة التاريخية عند العرب منذ بداياتها الأولى وحتى العصر المملوكي تقريباً. ففي تلك العصور التي سبقت الحداثة، احتلت الكتب التاريخية حيزاً واسعاً من بين العلوم العربية الإسلامية. لذا، فإن هذه المقالة الموجزة لا تطمح إلى الشمول بل إلى وصف بعض معالم هذا التراث التأريخي، بالإشارة إلى بعض أهم المؤرخين الذين أسهموا في تطور هذا التراث، مع الالتفات بإيجاز إلى التحولات المجتمعية المواكبه له. أخيراً تقدم المقالة عرضاً سريعاً لما تعرض له هذا التراث من نقد عند بعض المستشرقين الغربيين المعاصرين، وما يتضمنه هذا النقد من فوائد وهفوات This article traces the development of Arab historical writing from its beginnings in the eighth–ninth centuries until approximately the Mamluk era in the fifteenth–sixteenth centuries. Given the vast corpus of such writings and their prominent presence in the Arabic tradition, this article does not aim to be comprehensive; it merely provides a brief overview of the main developments and trends of that literary tradition, highlighting some of its principal practitioners and the social developments that accompanied its evolution. The article concludes with an analytical examination of some of the criticism advanced against that tradition by contemporary Western Orientalists.]
