Abstract

[Marivaux's Slave Island is often considered among his utopian plays. This article, however, emphasizes another dimension, namely, how the play shifts from social and moral lessons toward a demonstration of the powers of drama. By using mise en abyme, the play exhibits the cathartic effects of comedy by transforming the masters in the play into spectators of their own absurdities, and by inviting its servants to experience a sort of drama therapy through parodying those who oppress them. This mirroring technique seems to supplant social criticism at the same time as it works as a meta-reference to it. ﻋﺎﺩﺓ ما تصنف جزيرة العبيد لمارﻳﭭﻮ بوصفها مسرحية معتمدة على فكرة اليوتوبيا الاجتماعية. لكن هذه المقالة تبين كيف يتم الانزلاق من الموضوع السياسي الأخلاقي إلى إظهار تأثير المسرح و سيطرة عالمه الخاص داخل الحبكة. بمعنى آخر ، توضح المقالة كيف يتم تدرﻳﺠﻴﺎً استبدال نقد النظام الاجتماعي بتجلي قدرة الغن الكوميدي على تطهير الانفعالات ﺍﻟﺴﻠﺒﻴﺔ لدى الشخصيات القائمة بدور المتفرج على خشبة المسرح (الأسياد) ، من ناحية ، ومن ناحية أخرى ، تنظيم تجربة العلاج النفسي للشخصيات المنوط بها التمثيل داخل المسرحية الرئيسية (الخدم الطلقاء المدعوين إلى ارتجال محاكاة تهكمية عن أسيادهم) .]
