Abstract

[This article illustrates how in the 1950s, the Beiruti journal al-Ādāb advocated the literary norm of iltizām or commitment, borrowed from French existentialism, which encouraged individualism, freedom of conscience, and presentism. The journal also privileged translation, understood as a means of establishing solidarity with justice-seekers globally and of acquiring new tools for challenging imperialism. The author shows how a series of tensions began to emerge in the journal in response to Camus's and Sartre's equivocations on Algeria and Palestine. These crises brought the journal's understanding of translation into question. Subsequently, translation ceased to be seen as an emancipatory tool. توضح هذه المقالة تبني مجلة الآداب البيروتية مبدأ ((الالتزام)) ، ذلك المعيار الأدبي الذي اقتبسته عن الوجودية الفرنسية ، في الخمسينيات من القرن العشرين . وقد شجع هذا المبدأ الفردية ، وحرية الضمير، وهيمنة الحاضر على الماضي والمسقبل . كما أولت الآداب أهمية خاصة للترجمة باعتبارها وسيلة للتضامن مع طالبي العدالة عالمياً وطرق سبل جديدة لمجابهه الإمبريالية . يتناول الكاتب سلسلة من التوترات داخل المجلة ظهرت ردَّ فعلﹴ على مواربات مواقف كامو وسارتر بخصوص الجزائر وفلسطين . وقد ﻧﺠﻢ عن هذه الأزمات تساؤلات جديدة بصدد فكر المجلة ﺫﺍﺗﻪ حول معنى الترجمة ، حيث لم تعد الأخيرة أداة التحرر كما كانت سابقاً .]
