Abstract

[This article introduces a previously unexamined figure — the "Ecological Bedouin" (itself a take on the "Ecological Indian") — in three Arabic "desert novels" by Ibrahim Al-Koni, Abd al-Rahman Munif, and Sabri Moussa. The author sets up three "encounters" between the Ecological Bedouin and other figure types: the Bedouin of Ibn Khaldun's Muqaddima, the Ecological Indian, and city interlopers. Conclusions are drawn from these encounters as to the historical circumstances of the appearance of this figure in Arabic literature, the empirical validity of the figure, and his relevance to ecological principles in the Arab region. تقيّم هذه المقالة شخصية مجازية لم تُدرَس من قبل وهي شخصية «البدوي البيئي» - التي هي بدورها تبنﹴ لمفهوم «الهندي البيئي» - في ثلاثة «روايات صحراء» عربية، للكُتاب إبراهيم الكوني، وعبد الرحمن منيف، وصبري موسى. يعقد الكاتب ثلاثة «لقاءات» بين البدوي البيئي وشخصيات أخرى: البدوي في مقدمة ابن خلدون، الهندي البيئي، والدخلاء على الصحراء من أهل الحضر. وتتوصل المقالة، بناء على هذه اللقاءات، إلى استنتاجات عن الظروف التاريخية لظهور هذه الشخصية في الأدب العربي، ومدى تطابقها مع الواقع، وصلتها بمبادئ بيئية للمنطقه العربية .]
