Abstract

[This article uses gender to interpret sacred space and ritual. Focusing on the ritual of 'Ashura, the author examines the processes whereby three generations of Iraqi Shi'a women have negotiated and reconstructed their identities "vis-à-vis" the Iraqi state and US invasion. It examines the relation between the city of Karbala and its pilgrimage industry, and the way it has been used for political agendas. Discussing her installation exhibit of the sacred ritual, the author invites the reader to embark on a journey to identify different layers of meaning and history. تستخدم ﮪذﻩ المقالة منظور الجنوسة بوصفه أداة لتحليل الفضاء والطقس المقدس، مركزة على طقس عاشوراء الشيعي. تتناول الكاتبة أسلوب ثلاثة أجيال من نساء الشيعة العراقيات في التعاطي مع ﮪوياتهن وٳعادة تشكيلها في مواجهة الدولة العراقية والاحتلال الأمريكي من خلال الطقوس والفضاءات المقدسة. وتتناول كذلك العلاقة بين مدينة كربلاء وصناعة الحج وطرق استغلالها منبراً للعديد من المشاريع السياسية. وتدعو الكاتبة القارﺉ من خلال عرضها لفن التجهيز ٳلى القيام برحلة مقدسة يستكشف من خلالها طبقات المعنى والتاريخ التي تدل عليها هذه المواد الملموسة التي استخدمتها في معرضها .]
