Transit: Up-Cycling Egyptian Public Seating
TRANSIT aims to create originally designed upcycled public Egyptian seating from used tires and ropes for the public use. To validate an existing problem of solid waste in Cairo by solving a small part of this problem through the process of upcycling. TRANSIT focuses on three main purposes: to raise awareness on Egypt’s solid waste hoping to encourage solid waste control and reduction; to introduce the process of upcycling solid waste into a product that aims to fill in a public gap; and to focus on how upcycling discarded materials enables one to add benefits to the environment rather than to keep the waste dumped on the streets. The functional aspect of the product refers to the necessity of comfortable public seating with shade canopies to provide shade under a well-built structure to unify people of all ages while being sustainable.
