Description or Abstract

According to Egypt Today, the divorce rate in Egyptian cities has skyrocketed starting the year 2017, reaching over 60%, with research suggesting that 40% of the marriages often end with divorce within the first five years. My grandmother Yousreya Azzam was a widow at age 51, with four children, three of which are girls. This audio feature tells the story of why those three girls are blaming their mother for their divorce and how there's a direct relationship between education and life choices [therefore; marriage ad divorce] as told by sociology professor Noha Fikry, in the feature. In this audio feature, my mother Omayma Maher also tells her side of the story as we take a look back at my grandmother's early life, why she got married and why her catholic school -education might have contributed to the failed marriages of her daughters. This audio feature tells the story of Yousreya Azzam, my grandmother and how her education and lack of awareness affected the way she raised her daughters and why they blame her for their failed marriages [divorces] and wrong life choices. Especially my mother, Omayma Maher.
