As part of the Qahwa and Kalam series, May al-Ibrashy, director of Al-Athar Lina Initiative and adjunct professor in the Department of Construction Engineering and the Department of Architecture, gave a lecture titled "Al-Athar Lina: Can Conservation be a Vehicle for Social Development?" Al-Ibrashy discussed the experience of the Al-Athar Lina Initiative and whether heritage conservation could be a vehicle for social development. Does taking care of historical buildings and artifacts also help the society and community in which those structures survive? Is there a contradiction between both approaches? Can it be overcome?
