Title
Animal Accusers: An Islamic Critique of Violence
Description or Abstract
Dr. McGregor is a Fulbright Scholar at AUC for 2019-2020 and Associate Professor of Religion and Islamic Studies at Vanderbilt University. His talk will discuss a tenth-century Iraqi fable from The Epistles of the Brethren of Purity which explores the relationship between humans and animals. Behind the debates over natural rights and hierarchies, the fable sheds an unflattering light on violence toward animals.
