Title
Translating Defiance into Art: Tunisian Women's Revolution
Description or Abstract
The Center for Translation Studies presents an interdisciplinary lecture by Nevine El Nossery, Associate Professor of Francophone Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In her talk entitled: "Translating Defiance into Art: Tunisian Women's Revolution", Dr. El Nossery tackles several interesting questions about the societal role of politically engaged women artists in the wake of the Arab Spring. From a comparative and multidisciplinary perspective, she suggests that archiving gender-politicized forms of creativity is an act of defiance in itself. Providing a glimpse of her work in progress, this talk is based on her upcoming book about women and the Tunisian Revolution.
