What We Talk About When We Talk About Photography

Nicholas Hamelin Dr., Aladin Abdel Naby, and Ahmed Hayman

Will the Black Lives Matter end up on a supermarket shelf?

Dr. Nicolas Hamelin discusses the cultural appropriation of the Black Lives Matter movement by brands, in light of the recent BLM protests, questioning how genuine and impactful will the BLM movement remain once it is posted on tomato ketchup bottles, ice cream boxes and dental plaques removers.

    Capturing Pandemics

Photojournalists Aladin Abdel Naby and Ahmed Hayman reflect on the risks involved in the practice of photojournalism during a deadly outbreak, and how the ethics of capturing death by camera have evolved over the years. The video includes presentations of the coverage of the Swine flu pandemic in Egypt in 2009, and coverage of the Ayaat railway accident which took place in 2002. Disclaimer: Video includes disturbing images.
