Abstract

[This article investigates the interplay between the trauma of imprisonment and ensuing psychological and physical torture experienced, on the one hand, and the acts of "friendship" and "solidarity" that defy the extreme form of debasement, on the other. It examines these views with particular reference to the autobiographies of two political prisoners: Nelson Mandela's Long Walk to Freedom and Fawzi Habashi's Mu'taqal kul al-'usur (Prisoner of All Generations). The authors do not only share an affinity of cause, but, more importantly, seek a similar goal in writing: forward-looking search for a better world in the future, rather than bitter reflection on the difficult past. تبحث هذه المقالة التأثير المتبادل ما بين صدمة السجن والعذاب النفسي والبدني الذي يعانيه السجين وفعل ((الصداقة)) و((التضامن)) الذي يتحدى به امتهانه البالغ. تتناول المقالة هذه الفكرة من خلال تحليل السيرة الذاتية لاثنين من السجناء السياسين: طريق طويل نحو الحرية لنيلسون مانديلا ومعتقل كل العصور لفوزي حبشي. ولا تقتصر السيرتان على رابطة الالتزام بالقضبة بل تتشاركان في الهدف من كتابة السيرة؛ فلا يسعى أي من المناضلين إلى تدبرآلام الماضي بمرارة بل يحاول كل منهما أن يستشرف مستقبلاَ يكون العالم فيه أفضل .]
