Kalamon: Arabic Type Design
Kalamon is a modern text Arabic typeface that is designed for Arabic school books, whose text is dominated by a typeface that has many problems concerning legibility and readability and, more significantly, does not suit the spirit of young students. Hence, Kalamon is designed in a way that would balance between being playful and serious at the same time. Kalamon’s letters are characterized by large counters and low contrast that allows it to function perfectly when used in small sizes in bulks of text. It also encompasses other features, such as its rounded diamond shape, rounded endings, single sharp cut in each letter, slanted endings and rounded connections, which all render the typeface suitable for the child’s playful spirit.
