Korba Signage System
The aim behind this project is to revive the heritage of Al Korba, one of Cairo’s oldest and authentic neighborhoods, protect the depleting architectural value, make the street better function as a market place for the user, and ultimately to adapt the foreign visual culture that comes with new brands onto Korba's already existing visual culture. Accordingly, the design process involved designing new shop fronts’ signage for the shops in Korba in a way that revives the already existing. The signs logic was based on mere graphical representation or similarity between the sign and the respective category or depending on the hierarchy of the feature that inspired that sign on the building arcade and the hierarchy of that shop category in comparison to the rest of the categories on the street.
