Reporting from inside the Journalism Department

Dania Akkawi, The American University in Cairo

Description or Abstract

Hey there! My name is Dania Akkawi and I am a Multimedia Journalism student at The American University in Cairo (AUC). I am also doing a minor in International Relations. You'll get to know how happy I am about my politics classes if you give this a listen. This project is for my JRMC 4460: Audio Production class. The course is taught by Professor Kim Fox and Hanady Omran is the teaching assistant. In this project, we document a day in our life on and off campus. Tune in to listen to what's like being a journalism student at AUC. I personally spend most of my time at The Caravan newsroom, our student-run newspaper. Spoiler Alert: I almost never leave that newsroom. It's my third year at university so the good news is that all of this is almost over, right? Transcript: docs.google.com/document/d/1sNokY…/edit?usp=sharing The #AUCdiaries project is an oral history project that documents the life of the AUC community. The project was initiated by Kim Fox in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JRMC) along with Hoda Mostafa, Maha Bali and Nadine Aboulmagd, all from the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT). The bulk of the content that was created for the #AUCdiaries podcasts was completed by students as part of AUC courses. As such, this is both a digital pedagogy project, since students learn while producing, and a digital scholarship project, since the output is considered to be digital scholarship.
