Description or Abstract

Aimy Ismail, AUC student, senior majoring in Journalism. This project is for the course JRMC 4460, instructed by Professor Kim Fox. In this feature I give a glimpse of my daily life with all the chaos it has. From waking up to the noise of my nieces and nephews at home, to attending uni, to pursuing my hobby, to family gatherings at home. Despite all the mess these moments are ones I'll cherish forever because family always comes first. NAT SOUND: (fade in and up) Kids noise and Aicha, the nanny, shouting (fade out) (00:18) Waking up at 8:15 am to the chaotic noise of four kids, my nieces and nephew that live with me and their nannies is the most annoying thing that could ever happen especially when I was trying to get that last 10 minutes of sleep before the alarm goes off. (00:14) NAT SOUND: Silence (00:01) I tried to cover my head with the pillow to catch a couple more minutes of sleep but then it happened, the sound I hate the most just went off. (00:05) NAT SOUND: Alarm (00:19) Ughhh I knew at the time my dream of sleeping again was already gone with the wind. A match made in heaven alarm, kids yelling and nannies shouting. I gave up and I decided to go make my tea to get my head straight, I can’t start my day without a cup of tea with milk. (00:16) NAT SOUND: (fade in) Boiler and pouring in cup then cross (fade out) (00:10) I knew I had a long day ahead of me so I went to the bathroom washed my face, showered, got dressed and finally packed my bag. (00:09) NAT SOUND: (fade in) Shower water, jacket, and bag zipper (fade out) (00:10) I was done by 9:30, I needed 20 minutes to get from my house in Katameya heights at the first end of New Cairo to AUC at the other end. (00:08) NAT SOUND: (fade in) Door car, seatbelt and car engine (fade out) (00:04) I headed to uni, and like my daily ritual I passed by the radio studio (00:02 ) NAT SOUND: (fade in) Good morning Amy in the studio (00:02) Then went off to attend my media law course followed by the other courses. (00:04) NAT SOUND: (crossfade) Media law lecture (00:04) Afterwards I went back to the studio to finish up some work for the radio show. (00:03) NAT SOUND: (fade in) Studio and typing. (fade out) (00:04) As soon I was done I rushed to pick up Carla, my niece from the nursery. Road trips can’t get any better like with this tiny one. I was telling her to sing twinkle twinkle but she decided that we wanted to hear her favourite jam. (00:10) NAT SOUND: (fade in) Carla asking me to play the song then (crossfade) “El3ab Yalla” (00:10) I dropped Carla home, and went quickly to the equestrian club because I had training. I finished then walked my horse for a while and got dressed in the changing room. (00:08) NAT SOUND: (crossfade) Horse trotting then changing room (fade out) (00:07) I was really late to my cousin’s birthday and I wanted to put some makeup on in the car so I decided to leave my car parked in the club and I went with my fiancé. It was kind of an excuse though, I really love carpooling with this one, it’s fun. (00:13) NAT SOUNDS: (fade in) Fiancé talking to me (fade out) (00:09) We got there just on time, dinner was all set and we started eating with my family, conversation cant get any louder than this. My family is quite excited that were gathered and celebrating. (00:10) NAT SOUND: (crossfade) Dinner table chatting and plates sounds and narration fades out (00:09) We ate like we never saw food before, everything tasted great and as soon as we were done the cake was put on the table and Untie Mimi my grandmother’s sister started singing. (00:09) NAT SOUND: (crossfade) Untie Mimi singing”Jolly Good Fellow” (00:03) After this was over, we all gathered and sang for my cousin to celebrate his twenty-first birthday. I was so happy because nothing is more important than family and being surrounded by all your loved ones. (00:11) NAT SOUND: (crossfade) Happy birthday then (fade out) (00:17) The #AUCdiaries project is an oral history project that documents the life of the AUC community. The project was initiated by Kim Fox in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JRMC) along with Hoda Mostafa, Maha Bali and Nadine Aboulmagd, all from the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT). The bulk of the content that was created for the #AUCdiaries podcasts was completed by students as part of AUC courses. As such, this is both a digital pedagogy project, since students learn while producing, and a digital scholarship project, since the output is considered to be digital scholarship.
