Rethinking the Early Nahda

As part of the Qahwa and Kalamseries, Peter Gran, professor of history at Temple University, delivered a lecture titled Rethinking the Early Nahda. Gran is the author of Islamic Roots of Capitalism: Egypt, 1760-1840 and Beyond Eurocentrism: A New View of Modern World History. In this talk, professor Gran built upon his previous research to discuss changes in Al-Azhar in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as well as new information on figures such as Shaykh Hassan al-'Attar.
